How to unlock pattern lock on samsung galaxy s4 without losing data

I have tried using adp but it can't recognize the phone. I'm a pretty big noob at this stuff but I have my old Samsung S4 SCHR970 here that's locked by a password I forgot years ago and I'm trying to find a way to get into it to retrieve my old pictures, passwords, videos and contacts etc.
